The Khevsurian "Nachrela" embroidery tradition has been granted the status of an intangible cultural heritage monument.

The Khevsureti “nachrela” embroidery tradition has been granted the status of an intangible cultural heritage monument.

“Nachrela” is a composition created and completed with various and multifaceted ornaments born in the mountains of Khevsureti, which was considered the main feature of clothing and accessories.

In the ethnographic reality of Khevsureti, “nachrela” is found on wood, metal, bone and stone.

The Khevsureti people call “nachrela” an embroidered face. This is a harmonious combination of beautiful ornaments and colors preserved from centuries to the present, which is completed using the cross-stitch technique.

Traditionally, the centuries-old tradition of “nachrela” embroidery, passed down from mother to daughter, is still alive today as an important feature of the identity of these masters.

The text belongs to the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Protection of Georgia. The initiative to grant the status belongs to the author of nachrela.ge, Manana Mchedlishvili.

Information about the granting of the status was published on June 20, 2025. You can watch the video at the link
